Missions: Gemini 3 (the first Gemini flight) in 1965; Gemini 10 (as commander) in 1966; Apollo 10 (as command module pilot) in 1969; Apollo 16 (as commander) in 1972; STS-1 (the first Shuttle flight, as commander) in 1981; STS-9 (as commander) in 1983. NASA Johnson Space Center administrator (1973-2004).
