Noted For: U.S. Congressman (R-IL, 1975-2007). Author of the Hyde Amendment (1977), which restricted federal funding for abortions. As chairman of the House Judiciary Committe (1995-2001), led impeachment proceedings against President Clinton. Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2007).
